Ellie Targett
Norwegian Customs & Culture

Ellie was born and brought up in Norway where she lived on the West Coast just outside the town of Molde. Her father, a Professor of Marine Biology, was a member of the Norwegian resistance during World War ll and wrote his story which was published in 2005 by Polperro Press under the title, Another Man's Shoes. In 1944 he was arrested for photographing German Military installations but managed to escape and fled over 300 miles across the mountains to Sweden. Sixty years later, daughter Ellie set out on foot with her sister Yuli to retrace their father's flight from Nazi-occupied Norway. Ellie herself spent many years as an actress both amateur and professional and appeared at the Edinburgh fringe in Happy Birthday Mr President. She also worked in commercial radio for several years as a presenter and voice-over artist before moving to the BBC in 2000. She is a very accomplished speaker, and tells the story of her father's escape extremely eloquently. She also talks with personal first-hand knowledge of Norwegian culture, customs and costumes. Ellie also writes, teaches piano part-time and competes her lovely horse Ranazotti at dressage. In February 2014 they won the Regional Championships and went on to become National Champions in April. She is also an after dinner speaker on the subjects of WW ll in Norway and her father's work for Rotary, Probus, U3A, WI and many other groups. Ellie has been booked to speak at the Hay on Wye Festival on the 26th May 2017
