Since he retired from his professional life as a primary school headteacher fourteen years ago, music aficionado Dave Mallinder has been able indulge a lifelong passion by researching the lives of some of America’s finest entertainers from the 1920’s, 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s, as well as more modern pop and rock musicians. Dave possesses a vast library of over 45,000 recordings and still continues to occasionally work as a compere and music presenter/lecturer, something he has enjoyed doing for over fifty years. He has a wide knowledge of all forms of modern music, in particular big band, jazz, blues and pop music, from the 1920’s to the present day. Currently his suite of eight lectures cover the life and times of Nat “King” Cole, Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Doris Day,Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. In preparation for late 2017/early 2018, lectures covering the pop music of the Beatles, Elvis Presley, ABBA, the Rock ‘n’ Roll era, the 50's, the 60’s and the 70’s are planned. All of Dave’s PowerPoint lectures are extremely well-researched and contain a wide range of colourful, compelling images, together with musical sound recordings and unique archive video footage. In addition Dave has prepared an autobiographical 45 minute Q & A session in Desert Island Discs format. This covers his life in education and entertainment. The session is loosely scripted with suggested questions for the interviewer and is punctuated with eight pieces of music representing significant milestones in Dave's life. Dave is a highly professional and confident speaker who is at home with audiences of any size – from five to five thousand. He has a wide knowledge of his topics. He is passionate about modern music, a subject which he delivers with a charismatic appeal and a warm, friendly personality. A recent report from a cruise ship engagement stated: ““Dave is a very popular speaker who attracted very large numbers to all of his talks about the great singers. A confident speaker who presented very well researched talks that had extremely good visual and musical content. I would be very happy to see him back in future, a speaker who would suit any cruise audiences.”.”
