As a dedicated ‘stitcher’ Kate has been involved with needlecrafts from the age of 4! Since 2007 she has worked on Fred Olsen, P&O and Saga cruise ships, working on both long and short cruises, with all the relevant documentation, vaccinations and insurance. Her husband – who is her very able assistant – and Kate have worked with both right and left handers, experienced and totally new crafters, offering a mixture of easy and complicated projects to fulfil all the relevant needs. As a craft lecturer Kate always offers several different items on a daily basis to give the passengers a choice of projects. She belongs to the WI and runs similar craft classes for members of both the WI and U3A. Kate trained as a teacher of Home Economics specialising in textiles, and taught in secondary schools for 35 years. She has a City & Guilds Creative Embroidery Certificate, a Degree in Education and a Diploma in Careers Education. Kate has also been involved in adult education. In her free time, Kate enjoys stitching, reading, travelling gardening and handicrafts of all descriptions!
All of the topics are designed to follow the cruise we are doing e.g. Hardanger on a Norweigan cruise. All are needle based but include: bow ties and cuff links, jewellery including necklaces and bracelets, crochet, fancy knitting, patchwork, velvet bags with ribbon decoration, Sashiko, Hardanger, Blackwork, Cross stitch, tapestry, canvas boxes, macrame, corsages including stump work, Dorset Buttons, christmas items, and many more. Each cruise is considered and although the same technique may be used the actual project will differ. Below is a selection of some of her craft work: (Click image for full size)
